nobody's up there, this game's easy to play (info)
1 - A history lesson
*this first part is a very fictionalized, simplified, and otherwise Just For Fun summation of the Set myth!! not to be taken as accurate historical or mythological record
In the early days of creation, Set was born of the earth (Geb) and the sky (Nut), along with his siblings Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys. He served the role of guardian for the sun, Ra, keeping the Serpent of Chaos at bay so that the civilization of Egypt could be created. In spite of his dedication to the quickly growing pantheon and its people, Set was passed over by his father for the role of first Pharaoh of the people - it went instead to Osiris, whose line would forever rule over Egypt.
Enraged by the perceived betrayal, Set killed and dismembered his brother and scattered his body parts across the land, then claimed the throne for himself. He underestimated his sisters' love for their brother, though - Isis, now Osiris's widow, and Nephthys, Set's wife, worked together to track down the pieces and reassemble Osiris's body, and Nephthys breathed life into his body so that he and Isis could conceive a son. When that temporary breath of life left his body, Osiris took up his new role as Lord of the Underworld and tasked his future son with siring the line of Pharaohs.
For many years, Isis raised their son, Horus, in hiding. But Egypt was suffering under Set's rule, and so Horus stepped out from under her wing to challenge his uncle for the throne that was rightfully his. They fought several long, bloody battles, during which Set claimed one of Horus's eyes and Set was rendered infertile. In the end, all the other gods took Horus's side and Set was banished to the Red Lands, an endless expanse of barren desert.
2 - Startin' shit
From his throne in the Red Lands, Set dedicated his life to inflicting the same chaos on his family and civilization that he once protected them from as protector of Ra. The power of the Egyptian Pantheon had begun to weaken as people turned to other gods and talk of a single, all-powerful deity spread despite all attempts to keep it quashed, and Set decided he wanted to speed up this process by offering his power to any invading forces that reached Egypt's borders. In this way, the son of Egypt's creation gods came to be known instead as a demon.
Inevitably, his own power slipped away along with the rest as monotheistic religion swept across the world, but Set was still not ready for retirement. Rebranded Seth by the gods of Mt Olympus, he presented himself to Satan and argued his case as a powerful ally against tyrants who sought complete dominion over mortal and divine beings. He was granted the ability to take over human bodies - not just possession but complete rebirth as a living demon - with vivid red hair always marking his identity in reference to the red fur of his god form's animal head.
Seth's specialty became the downfall of particularly pious cities, states, and civilizations: he would stir violence and discord, bring down horrific natural disasters on their heads, and weaken their borders until they became little more than footnotes in history. These early days among humanity caused him to develop a taste for hedonistic pleasure-seeking, particularly through sex but also drugs and drink, which became such a problem that he sometimes failed his missions from Satan because he got too wrapped up in his own fun.
Still, his affinity for sowing chaos couldn't be denied, so Satan allowed him to keep body-hopping and making trouble on a smaller scale so long as none of his actions directly aided the cause of God and His armies.
3 - Modern day
Three things tend to mark Seth's arrival in a modern setting: the sudden appearance of a cult or criminal gang with cultlike aspects, a massive uptick in murders involving dismemberment, and a shitty lil red-haired dude at the center of it all. He seeks to unite the disillusioned nihilists, the numbed-out pleasure seekers like himself, the trolls and the sociopaths who find human emotion tiresome or hilarious, in worship of his modern form so that he can regain the full power he once held and -
- profit?? At this point, Seth has no idea what he wants. He just knows he's been denied his wants for so long that someone has to pay for it, and Satan has been added to that list for demoting him.
THEME SONG: Giant
Nobody's up there, this game's easy to play
I can cover up the sky with my hand like I said
Yes, sneezing is a typhoon - achoo!
Even if you're surrounded, you're not even in the eye
They call us God of Gods to use our powers that we hold
For their own desires
Watch them explode
THEME OF THE NEW
Peoples' tears form a river as they try to turn away from everything
We must put it back in place now with a volcanic heat
Oh, listen to the sound of your soul, the loud echoes
Why you hesitating? Why you waiting? Don't you hide it, don't you fight it
Move, follow me, trust me, come to me, your heart will wish for it
Look at the new era
Wake up the world, like thunder we are
Unstoppable like a storm, we are
